Sam tries to convince Joanna to help

Sam tries to convince Rosie to help

This comedy by Alan Ayckbourn, the second of the Damsels in Distress trilogy, was performed in June 2008 in the Market Hall.   On both nights, large audiences enjoyed this well-performed and presented comedy of errors.

A night of romance in her luxurious riverside apartment with the good-looking stranger from next door. How can Joanna possibly go wrong? Except the flat isn’t hers, her name isn’t Joanna and heaven knows what the stranger is really after. Instead of romance comes considerable danger.

Rosie starts to understand the situation

Rosie starts to understand the situation

The heroine of this play is Rosie, a young actress. Watering the plants in a strange Docklands apartment, it should be the day of her big break into television, but a last minute rejection leaves her bewildered and feeling unwanted. With the arrival of her handsome neighbour Rosie assumes the role of inhabitant, only to find that nothing is what it seems and her only way out is to play the role to the end.

Some comments from the audience were:

  • ‘I went to see Aspects of Love in Ipswich before coming here, but you were much better.’
  • ‘We’ll quite happily walk through Saxmundham on Saturday morning with a sandwich board advertising this excellent production.’
  • ‘Everything about this production was superb – standard of acting, set design, sound and light – and it was very entertaining as well.’
  • ‘It’s a shame more local people don’t support you.’

The cast and production crew thoroughly enjoyed the experience of this, our first full-length production.
